Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I contact you?  You can contact me via email packteam4@att.net.  I try to monitor the email account throughout the day, so I can usually return your email within 24 hours.  I perform captures during my spare time; as a result, I am not available during “work-week-days” for rescues, or able to deploy on short notice. *Note* I do not take request for help from Facebook posts.

Q: How do you capture the dogs?  I can capture a dog with a humane animal trap; I always try that first.  It is the least traumatizing for the dog and ensures that the dog will not suffer any injury during the capture.

Q: How long does it take to get a dog off the streets?  It depends on many factors; a rescue can take an hour, or it can take several months.

Q: I see a dog in the same place every day; (field, park, street, etc.) what can I do?  To help the dog; put out dog food and water in a safe place away from the road, and begin a feeding plan.  Over time, this will result in the dog returning regularly.  Once the dog is in a known place, the dog can be captured.

Q: I saw an injured dog, can you come to get it? If you see an injured dog, call 911.  This way the dog can be taken to the Austin Animal Center to have their needs addressed quickly.

Q: What does the 4 stand for in Pack Team 4? The “4” in the name stands for the four steps taken to help a Street Dog.  (1) The Finder (2) The Feeder (3) The Foster, and (4) The Forever home. 🙂

Q: How can I make a donation? I take donations of dog food, batteries, equipment, and poster supplies.  “Ask me what I need!”

Q: Who am I?  My name is Valerie H., and I have been doing dog rescue for over 25 years in Austin, Texas. I started PT4 nine years ago after taking care of a Street Dog named “Jonah” that was living in the greenbelt by my house. (he is pictured in my logo) I am also a Missing Animal Response Technician.
